DAY 7 ONTO AUGRABIES

The trip from Twee Rivieren to Augrabies Falls took a bit longer than we thaught. We drove through plenty of vinyards along the Orange River including the small towns of Keimos and Kakamas where between the two, the first battle between the Germans and the South Africans took place in 1915.

Arriving at the camp site we were greeted by a welcoming party of babnoons, however it was the vervet monkeys that proved to be the problem. One character nonchalantly tried to run past me and into the caravan to snatch some rolls inside, he was introduced to my size 8 veldskoen!

Dassies were everywhere on the rocks around the camp. These little creatures are said to be related to the elephant and dugongs.

The walkways around the falls are well laid out which makes viewing a pleasure.

Klipspringers
The hoovs are set in a peculiar way, being especially adapted for clinging to or balancing upon small projections of rock.

The scenery in the park was spectacular and we wished we could have been here longer.

  1. WOW! Spectacular photos, Derrick! Very impressive. Not dissimilar to the Aussie Red Centre and deserts.
